Application FAQ's
Q - How much will this program cost me? A - Once an applicant becomes an apprentice, the cost to the apprentice is negligible, roughly $350.00 annually for the cost of books. Q - Can I continue to work at my current job while completing the apprenticeship? A - 10,000 hours of On-the-Job Training is required to complete the apprenticeship. Participating contractors provide OJT. Apprentices earn a wage while performing the OJT portion of their training. You will be expected to attend full time employment at your OJT assignment. Q - How much will I be paid while being trained? A - Inside Wireman Apprentices start the program earning 32.5% of what an Inside Journeyman worker earns: $16.90 per hour (1/6/2026). Raises are earned at pre-determined intervals throughout the 5 years. Telecommunications Apprentices start the program earning 40% of what a Telecommunications Journeyman worker earns: $16.60 per hour (1/6/2026). Raises are earned at pre-determined intervals throughout the 3 years. Q - Are classes held in the evenings? A - Apprentices attend class one day every other week, for 8 hours each day. Apprentices do not receive payment for the time spent in class. Some classes may require evening attendance. Q - How often are Apprentice classes taken? A - Apprentices are selected from the list of ranked applicants based on the need of the electrical industry. Q - Am I required to live in Lake County, Indiana? A - While the majority of your training will be within the borders of Lake County, there is no requirement to live within the county.
